"The support you need shouldn't be out of reach”
Affordable Therapy & Accessible Mental Health Support
I believe mental health support should be accessible to those who need it most. Sliding scale pricing is rooted in the principle of economic justice—those with more resources pay closer to full rate, which helps sustain lower rates for those with fewer resources.
If you're looking for affordable counselling in Vancouver, reduced-fee therapy, or income-based counselling rates, sliding scale may be an option for you.
As Alexis J. Cunningfolk writes: "Sliding scale is not a discount. It's a community agreement that we all deserve care, and that care costs something."
Before You Request a Sliding Scale Rate
This framework is designed to help you thoughtfully consider your financial capacity and the value of this work in your life. There are no right or wrong answers—just an invitation to reflect honestly.
Consider your financial reality:
Do you meet your basic needs (housing, food, transportation, medical care) without regular stress or sacrifice?
Do you have savings or access to financial support from family?
Do you have discretionary income for entertainment, dining out, or non-essential purchases?
Are you supporting dependents or managing significant debt?
Do you have employer benefits, insurance reimbursement, or other means to offset counselling costs?
Consider the sustainability of care:
How frequently do you need sessions to make meaningful progress?
Can you afford consistent sessions at your chosen rate for the duration of the agreement?
Would paying a higher rate create financial stress that undermines the therapeutic work?
Consider community care:
If you can comfortably pay closer to the standard rate, doing so makes space for others with greater need.
Sliding scale spots are limited—choosing a rate that reflects your true capacity helps ensure accessibility for those with the least resources.
Sliding Scale Rates for Affordable Counselling
$60 per session – For those experiencing financial hardship, with little to no discretionary income
$80 per session – For those managing on a limited budget with occasional financial flexibility
$100 per session – For those with stable income and some discretionary spending capacity
Sliding scale agreements are for 10 sessions. After this period, we can reassess your circumstances and determine next steps together.
